Would someone be able to tell us whether the Itsukushima Shrine is still under construction? The only information I can find says that it started in June 2019 and is expected to last for a year. We are visiting in March 2019 and hope it might be completed sooner so that we can visit to see!

It was still under scaffold in November and I believe will be until early next year. It is is only the tori gate the rest of the shrine ok and the island still worth a visit

Than you have other temples on the island to see, a little walk on the top of the ''mountain''. If you like oysters, we will be delighted with the wide choice of place to eat. Try also the cookies, you even can see the making of them in the ''village''. Have fun!
Hello, I just read that jr passes allows you free ferry riding, but can we buy on the internet the tickets to the island to avoid the queue? since we are very tight on our time. What time should we go to walk to the tori gate, (low tide) I guess. We will be in myajima on the 18 of april 2017. thanks

I don't think you can get tickets online, but there's hardly any queue for tickets... I suggest you get somebody to wait in the queue for the ferry while someone gets the tickets. The …

The view of the gate is amazing both on low and high tides so does matter much when we get there, but it's a must see! If you want to walk around the shrine aim for the low tide

During high tide, you are not able to reach to the gate of the shrine in the ocean because of over one meter tide. Just look at the gate from the shrine or beach. JR ferry go through …
During high tide, you are not able to reach to the gate of the shrine in the ocean because of over one meter tide. Just look at the gate from the shrine or beach. JR ferry go through near the gate on the ocean. There are two ferry companies in Miyajima and JR ferry operates a ferry with good view to the island. If you want to reach to the gate, you should stay in the island overnight.
