Newcastle United's summer transfer window could get quite busy over the next few weeks. The Magpies are currently preparing for the start of the new Premier League campaign that gets underway on August 16 with an away trip to Aston Villa.

Newcastle United had an excellent 2024/25 season, breaking a 56-year trophy drought and finishing in the top five, securing Champions League football. As they prepare for a busier season (and potential departures) they have set out ambitiously in the summer transfer window.

That form has, unsurprisingly, sparked interest from Europe’s elite. Florian Plettenberg names Liverpool and Manchester United as suitors, while Chelsea are admirers but are unlikely to pursue such an expensive deal following the arrivals of both Liam Delap and João Pedro earlier this summer.

Of the players Newcastle have ‘failed’ to sign, Huijsen moving to Real Madrid from Bournemouth rightly generated the least hysteria. The 20-year-old was coveted by the biggest clubs in Europe and, while Newcastle pushed hard to acquire the Spain international, there was an acceptance they were always unlikely to lure the centre-back to Tyneside.
