The St. Louis Cardinals had some rough luck on Sunday. St. Louis faced the Boston Red Sox and dropped both games of the doubleheader. More importantly, though, the Cardinals lost Iván Herrera to a knee injury.

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Iván Herrera was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday because of a bone bruise in his left knee. Pedro Pages is expected to get the bulk of the action behind the plate with Herrera out.

Having already experienced a wide range of emotions as it relates to Iván Herrera's injured left knee, further testing in St. Louis on Monday revealed a bone bruise that is expected to sideline the Cardinals' promising catcher for at least four weeks.

Making it clear that they have no intention of moving catcher-turned-first baseman Willson Contreras away from his new position and back behind the plate, the Cardinals made a flurry of moves on Monday to replace injured catcher Iván Herrera and provide for some protection behind starter Pedro Pagés.

Herrera was removed from Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Red Sox due to an apparent leg injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports. Herrera worked a walk during the bottom of the third inning but suffered an injury while running the bases and required assistance to leave the field.
