Overnight, pro-government reinforcements drove Syrian rebels back from the edge of Hama, a key city whose fall would mark a significant win for the opposition forces’ recent offensive. CNN’s Ben Wedeman reports.

The rebel command said on Wednesday, it captured a number of towns and villages outside the city. A Britain-based war monitor said government artillery and airstrikes had pushed the rebels back.
