Three best friends parasailing on a Florida vacation are the stars of Thursday night's Discovery Channel Shark Week episode. They were about 300 feet in the air when they saw a shark in the water. They saw more while getting reeled in.

De Gelder, a Shark Week veteran of over a decade, has built a career on surviving the unthinkable. While working as a Navy bomb disposal diver in 2009, De Gelder was attacked by a bull shark, losing both his right hand and leg to the animal.

Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week” kicks off with a unique twist this year: “Dancing with Sharks.” Hosted by former “Dancing With the Stars” host Tom Bergeron, the show features scuba-diving shark handlers performing underwater dances with hammerhead sharks.
