Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said this month he would step aside as leader of the country and Liberal Party, said he won’t run in the election that must be held this year.

Canada’s prime minister officially announced his resignation at a press conference outside his home in Ottawa on Monday morning.

Trudeau was widely expected to announce his resignation ahead of the Liberal Party’s national caucus meeting on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday that “he will not be running in the upcoming election” and says he hasn’t had much time to think what he will be doing after he resigns as Liberal leader and prime minister.
