Shiv Sena ruling alliance - Mahayuti - hit the majority mark of 145 after a flying start and is leading on over 210 seats in early trends. The MVA, meanwhile, is struggling to narrow down the gap and leading on 60 seats.

According to the Election Commission of India data, the BJP is leading in 39 seats, while the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena is ahead in 22. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP, also a partner in the Mahayuti, is leading in 19 seats.

The BJP has fielded candidates in 68 seats, with allies AJSU Party contesting 10, JD(U) two, and Lok Janshakti (Ram Vilas) one

Counting of votes for the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024 began at 8 am, with the postal ballots being opened first, followed by EVMs. The BJP-NCP-Sena ruling alliance - Mahayuti - is off to a flying start in early trends and leads on over 180 seats.

While several exit polls have given the BJP and it's coalition an edge in both states, the final results will be announced today as counting of votes is underway.
