Amid a series of booming eruptions, Mexican authorities have told millions who live near the Popocatépetl volcano to prepare for possible evacuation.

Mexico has deployed some 7,000 soldiers to the area of the volcano, which is near Mexico City, in case an evacuation becomes necessary. More than 25 million people live within 60 miles of the peak.

MEXICO CITY — Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano rumbled to life again this week, belching out towering clouds of ash that forced 11 villages to cancel school sessions.
