Thousands are without power as a major winter storm continues to barrel across the country. Where is it headed next?

Across North Carolina, ice and snow are set to linger as the state faces one of its most widespread winter events in years.

Forecasters expect around a half-inch of ice in the Charlotte area, with hazardous conditions lasting through Monday.

There are over 15,000 power outages reported across western North Carolina, according to Ready NC's power outage map.

A storm system has engulfed much of the South and threatens to affect millions more as it continues to move northeast, dumping ice, snow and sleet over communities. Western North Carolina is expected to see conditions that could mean prolonged power outages.
