The speed skating competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics begins Feb. 7 with the women's 3000m. Here's what to

One of the top competitors coming into this year’s event is Czechia’s Metodej Jilek. The top-ranked long-distance skater won the 5000m race in the World Juniors last year, and has the speed to make the most of his first Olympic experience.

Short-track speed skating in the Winter Olympics will be full of "chaos and drama," but at this Northern California facility skaters of all ages and skill levels are welcome.

The racing begins at 11:30 a.m. ET (5:30 p.m. local in Italy), but Leerdam won't be out there right away. Jutta Leerdam is in the last of the 15 pairings in the 1000-meter speed skating. Off the ice, Leerdam gets a lot of attention for her engagement to YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul — who is also at these Olympics, but as a spectator.

Norway’s Sander Eitrem took home gold in the men’s 5,000-meter speedskating competition, setting an Olympic record at 6:03.95. Czechia won gold in women’s parallel giant slalom, while Austria took gold in the men’s event.
