Two North Country communities are holding vigils Tuesday evening in memory of the 9-year-old girl that was found dead in Ticonderoga. The reported abduction of Melina Frattolin prompted an Amber Alert very early Sunday morning.

New York State Police said the father of a 9-year-old girl who was initially the subject of an Amber Alert and was later found dead has been charged with her murder.

Adirondack communities were shaken by the alerts because the reported abduction was not far from them. Ticonderoga hairdresser Bridgette Cruz was in a state of disbelief after police said the abduction report was fabricated.

The charges Luciano Frattolin faces were not immediately available, but records show he was booked early Monday at the Essex County jail
