The Black Friday retail bonanza will peak after Thanksgiving. It’s become a key indicator of U.S. consumer strength and one that will be closely watched by the Federal Reserve as it assesses the strength of the economy and inflation.

While most big U.S. retailers are closed on Thanksgiving Day, many will open early the following day — Black Friday, the unofficial start of the holiday gift-buying season and the biggest shopping day of the year.
