Environment Canada has issued a weather statement for parts of southern Ontario, saying up to five centimetres of snow accumulation is possible in some areas, with Toronto getting its first snowfall of the winter.

People in northwestern Ontario will want to have their shovels ready as much of the region prepares for heavy snowfall on Tuesday. Environment Canada issued a weather advisory for the northwest with about 10 to 15 centimetres of snow forecasted.

Lake effect snow squalls are expected to impact parts of Ontario throughout the weekend with peak snowfall rates of 2 to 4 in per hour, according to Environment Canada.
