The PWHL regular-season champion Montreal Victoire bucked the standings on Sunday in selecting to open the playoffs facing the third-place Ottawa Charge. In making the announcement, general manager Danièle Sauvageau said the team followed a process that included consulting with her staff and players.

Minnesota and Toronto begin a best-of-five playoff series on Wednesday in Toronto. The PWHL playoffs were set on Sunday and the Minnesota Frost, who snuck into the tournament thanks to back-to-back wins to close the regular season, are the No. 4 seed and will face the second-seeded Toronto Sceptres in the first round.

The Montreal Victoire will face the Ottawa Charge in the opening round of the Professional Women’s Hockey League playoffs.
