OpenAI's ChatGPT WhatsApp update has been released, making it possible for users to send pictures and voice notes to chat with ChatGPT.

Previously, while ChatGPT on WhatsApp could handle user queries, features like image recognition and voice mode were absent.

OpenAI is expanding its feature that lets you call or text ChatGPT. Now, WhatsApp users can also send images or voice messages to the bot.

WhatsApp is not huge in the United States, but it's one of the most widely-used messaging platforms in the world. Many AI chatbot makers also make their own service available there, including Microsoft's Copilot among others. ChatGPT is one of them, and now, it's getting a few improvements.

OpenAI has expanded ChatGPT's capabilities within WhatsApp, including uploading images, sending voice messages and linking existing ChatGPT accounts directly through the messaging platform. These updates have been rolled out to all users globally, ensuring that individuals worldwide can benefit from enhanced functionalities.

The makers of ChatGPT shared last year that an integration with WhatsApp was arriving soon. This would give users the chance to chat with the tool located inside the messaging app directly. Now, the firm is taking the integration one step further by adding support for the feature so users’ voice notes and pictures are linked to ChatGPT on the texting platform.

WhatsApp users can now interact with ChatGPT using image and voice inputs, expanding beyond the text-based queries introduced in December 2024. The update allows users to send photos or memes to ChatGPT for analysis and receive text-based insights in return.
