To manually add birthdays to Google Calendar, the user has to add the name, birthday and email address of another gmail user to Google Contacts.

Google is finally making it easier to add birthdays to Google Calendar. The service is getting a new birthday event type that removes all unnecessary event properties.

At the moment, birthdays that appear in Google Calendar are based on Google Contacts information, but manual creation is now coming.
