The Hard Rock Cafe in River North is closing its doors after nearly 40 years. The iconic rock-and-roll memorabilia restaurant said in a statement its last day of service will be March 29. Chicago was the chain's eighth location when it opened in 1986 and is the fourth oldest still open today.

After 39 years of operation at 63 W. Ontario Street in River North, Chicago's Hard Rock Cafe will officially shut down on March 29 of this year, according to NBC Chicago. The news was first shared by a fan account on Facebook last week, confirmed today by NBC Chicago.

A grand opening party was held for the Hard Rock Cafe at 63 W. Ontario St. in 1986, as that area of River North was transformed from little more than a row of gas stations to an entertainment district.
