HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. - Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister announced Tuesday evening that he was withdrawing his nomination to serve as Administrator of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

President Donald Trump challenged reports of Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister's DEA withdrawal, saying he didn't want the sheriff days his cabinet days after nominating him.

Over the weekend, president-elect Donald Trump shared plans to tap Hillsborough County’s twice-elected sheriff to lead the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. Shortly afterwards, Chronister called the nomination the “honor of a lifetime” and said he was “deeply humbled by this opportunity to serve our nation.”
