Los Angeles residents and experts say that the National Guard's presence in Los Angeles in response to immigration protests is reminiscent of a long-standing dynamic in the state and around the country.

The total number of military forces deployed to Los Angeles has climbed to about 4,700 after 700 Marines were deployed earlier Monday.

The move comes after 700 Marines were ordered to deploy to Los Angeles, where National Guard troops already are.
