A 4.7-magnitude earthquake struck B.C.'s Sunshine Coast on Friday, shaking homes and prompting a number of emergency alerts across the Lower Mainland but stopping short of any major damage.

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake was reported near South Pender Harbour, British Columbia, which is about a two-hour drive north from Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

A moderately powerful magnitude 4.7 earthquake hit near the Sunshine Coast of B.C., and it was felt across Metro Vancouver.

Earthquakes Canada says the tremor struck an area about 60 km west of the city of Vancouver and 35 km west of Squamish just before 1:30 p.m. on Friday. While the department hasn't received any reports of damage, they said shaking was "lightly felt" across the Lower Mainland.

The earthquake, which had a shallow depth, was reported around 1:30 p.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
