MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA (WCSC) - Emma Navarro has advanced to the quarterfinals of the first major championship of 2025. The Lowcountry native stayed alive at the Australian Open with another 3 set victory early Monday morning beating former Charleston Open champion Daria Kasatkina 6-4, 5-7, 7-5.

Second-seeded Iga Swiatek cruised into the Australian Open quarterfinals Monday with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Germany's Eva Lys in Melbourne, Australia. Swiatek needed only 59 minutes to oust lucky loser Lys.

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, (AP) - Emma Navarro is on to the 4th round of the Australian Open for the 1st time. Navarro eliminated three-time major finalist Ons Jabeur 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, Navarro, who reached her first major semifinal at Flushing Meadows in September, has now won all three of her matches in Melbourne this year in three sets.

The queen of the third set lives to see another round and advances to her third straight Slam quarterfinal. Former Virginia Cavaliers’ tennis star Emma Navarro is now the second player in the Open Era to make the women’s Australian Open quarterfinals by winning three-setters in the first four rounds.
