Brazil's newly nominated head of the planned 2025 COP30 climate summit in the Amazonian city of Belem warned on Tuesday that President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris Agreement would cast a shadow over the talks.

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has decided to name Andre Correa do Lago, the secretary of energy and environment at Brazil’s foreign affairs ministry, as head of the annual United Nations Climate Change Conference the country will host later this year.

Brazil warned Tuesday that US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement would have a major impact on COP30 talks to be held in the Amazon in November.

Brazil is expected to announce on Tuesday that ambassador Andre Correa do Lago will be president of the 2025 COP30 global climate summit in the Amazonian city of Belem, three people with knowledge of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's plans told Reuters.
