A Cadillac team is set to be part of Formula 1 racing in 2026, and it won't just be the American luxury brand's name on the cars competing against the likes of Ferrari and Mercedes in coming years.

American car manufacturer Cadillac will become the eleventh team on the Formula One grid in 2026 after the sport's owners announced Monday they had given their backing to the plan.

Formula One will expand to 11 teams with the addition of the Cadillac team in 2026. It's the first time General Motors will compete in the Formula One World Championship.

The 11th team will be called Cadillac F1 and be run by new Andretti Global majority owners Dan Towriss and Mark Walter.

Cadillac would be the first new team to join F1 since 2016. The Las Vegas race marks the third and final stop this year for F1 in the United States. The US. has three races, in Miami; Austin, Texas; and Las Vegas. That is more than any other country.

General Motors plans to enter Formula One with Cadillac in 2026, partnering with TWG Global and Mario Andretti. They will be the first new team since 2016 and the sixth engine maker.

Formula One and General Motors have reached an agreement for GM's entry as the 11th team in 2026. This partnership comes after extensive discussions with Liberty Media and involves GM/Cadillac branding and future engine supply.

Since Liberty Media bought F1 in 2017, the sport has become increasingly popular in the USA, with three races now held there every year.
