WASHINGTON -- The U.S. is set to impose new "reciprocal" tariff rates on Friday local time, with even countries that successfully negotiated down their rates facing an increase in duties.

The president also said South Korea was looking to "buy down" its tariffs level ahead of a key Friday negotiating deadline.
