Thousands of people in Greenland and Denmark have protested against plans by US President Donald Trump to take over Greenland - an autonomous Danish territory. Demonstrations were held in Danish cities including the capital, Copenhagen, as well as in Greenland's capital, Nuuk.
Some protesters expressed fears that if they spoke out about Trump, his administration could bar them from visiting the United States.
A bipartisan U.S. Congressional delegation's comments in Denmark contrasted with those emanating from the White House.
Trump said the 10% duties on eight European countries would increase to 25% on June 1 unless a deal is reached.
COPENHAGEN, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Thousands of protesters gathered across Denmark on Saturday in solidarity with Greenland amid U.S. President Donald Trump ’s threat to annex the Arctic island, demanding that the United States respect Greenlanders’ right to self-determination.
Greenlandic officials have complained that Denmark, the EU and the US were slow in investing, with business minister Naaja Nathanielsen telling the FT in May that Greenland could look to other countries such as China to help develop its minerals industry.
