GM has clarified why 2019-through-2020 model year trucks and SUVs aren't included in the automaker's most recent 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine safety recall.

Although it's not clear how many 2021 through 2024 models have been recalled, hundreds of thousands would be a pretty good estimate

The recall follows a January investigation​ by U.S. auto safety regulators into reports of engine failure in certain GM vehicles.
