Mexico and Suriname are set to meet for the very first time in the Concacaf Gold Cup, but the two sides do share a bit of history across other official competitions. Their rivalry includes three official meetings — one in FIFA World Cup Qualifying and two more recent clashes in the Concacaf Nations League.

Mexico held on for a narrow 3-2 victory over the Dominican Republic in its 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup opener. Mexico is currently at the top of Group A. Suriname and Costa Rica will play the second match in Group A on Sunday.
