This past weekend saw two Japanese fighters, Shigetoshi Kotari and Hiromasa Urakawa, die from brain injuries sustained on the same August 2nd show in Tokyo. Kotari fought OPBF super featherweight champion Yamato Hata to a draw, while Urakawa suffered a TKO loss to Yoji Saito.

Japanese boxers Shigetoshi Kotari and Hiromasa Urakawa have died from brain injuries suffered during separate fights at an Aug. 2 match in Tokyo.

“Rest in peace, Shigetoshi Kotari. The boxing world mourns the tragic passing of Japanese fighter Shigetoshi Kotari, who succumbed to injuries sustained during his August 2nd title fight,” they wrote on Friday alongside a black and white photo of Kotari raising one arm in the air.
