This is a mycorrhizal Bolete that associates with oaks in upland hardwood forests. Found one of my favorite edible mushrooms, a Butter Bolete (Butyriboletus autumniregius). It is a mycorrhizal species that associates with hardwoods and mixed conifers in the California coast. It has a reddish/pink cap (fades brown), yellow pores that stain instantly blue when injured, and an olive brown spore print. It’s a delicious edible mushroom, but can be mistaken for Caloboletus (inedibly bitter) or Rubroboletus (poison), pay close attention to the pore color and color of the stem to tell
